Tequila Roadhouse opens its doors

Goodbye Reilly’s, hello Tequila Roadhouse.

Friday night marked the grand opening of Tequila Roadhouse, 1215 Blackhawk Drive.

Tequila Roadhouse hopes to separate itself from many places by making the food first and drinks second.

The type of liquor license it holds will help in doing this.

“We are a AA liquor license, which is different than a single A license, which means you can sell up to 30 percent food, with an AA license you can sell up to 50 percent food,” said Tequila Roadhouse manager Jake Crandall. “It’s not a restaurant license, but we know with our great menu we’re going to serve a lot more food than a typical bar.”

Tequila Roadhouse wants to have a “community-university” feel by hiring lots of local people and not just fraternity and sorority members.

Tequila Roadhouse will host a Nintendo Wii bowling league on Tuesday nights, and enrollment will begin in two weeks.

Crandall said they are looking to sponsor things like softball teams if they need it. Tequila Roadhouse plans on doing two or three non-profit fundraisers per month for things such as muscular dystrophy and also for the Fraternal Order of Police.

“We hired a person whose father was paralyzed as a police officer and the Fraternal Order of Police pays for him and his two brother’s education,” Crandall said. “People may not realize when they get a call from the Fraternal Order of Police where the donation might be going, so we
want to raise awareness.”

Is this the same Tequila Roadhouse concept that was in Old Town up the street from Second City? The one that went out of business almost two years ago? That place was drama with a capital "D"! Check out the Yelp reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/tequila-roadhouse-chicago.
