DeKalb mayor attends College Democrat meeting
Grant given to increase safety

A Sandwich student died of causes related to the H1N1 virus, according to a DeKalb County Health Department press release.
This is the first H1N1-related death in the county, and the student had yet to attend school this year, according to the release.
The release did not specify the student’s date of death.
“Based on the information available to us, the student had no known underlying health conditions prior to becoming ill,” said Public Health Administrator Karen Grush in the release. “For most people, the flu continues to be a relatively mild illness; however, it is possible for individuals to become seriously ill. This is a difficult reminder to all of us that influenza can be a serious infection.”Anyone concerned about their illness should consult their health care provider, Grush said.
For more information regarding the H1N1 virus, contact the DeKalb County Health Department at 815-758-6673 or visit online at www.flu.gov or www.dekalbcountyhealthdepartment.org.
