Kathryn Friedlund, Sara McLaughlin, Brittni Fausett and Kelly Phillips lead the way for the NIU women’s tennis team during the ITA Midwest Regional.

All four posted wins in the consolation draw after dropping the first-round singles match-ups.
Emily Rogers, arguably the Huskies’ most reliable player, was triumphed by IPFW’s Yuka Kobayashi in a pair of matches 6-3, 6-4.

Later, Fausett and Rogers teamed up to defeat the Bradley tandem of Jessica Buterbaugh and Kelly Donahue, 8-2.

Unfortunately, NIU ended up dropping its three remaining doubles matches.

Overall, the Huskies posted five individual wins on the first day of action.

On the second day of play, Friedlund, Phillips and Rogers sparkled once again as they each won a pair of singles matches.

Phillips beat Eastern Illinois’ Shannon Brooks in back-to-back straight set wins, mirroring the same result in both matches (6-2, 6-2).

Rogers also found success as she posted a pair of wins consecutively over Bradley and Eastern Illinois in the consolation draw.

The duos of Fausett-Rogers and Friedlund-McLaughlin both fell in their doubles draw matches 8-6 and 8-3.

Both tandems would recover as Fausett-Rogers put up two consecutive doubles wins against Bradley and Eastern Illinois and Friedlund-McLaughlin defeated IPFW 8-5.
