Men's basketball team bids fairwell to seniors...

“You can’t be unlucky forever,” is a telling quote from the NIU women’s soccer coach Carrie Barker.
The Huskies (5-11-2, 1-7-2 MAC) get one final chance for the ball to finally bounce their way as they close out the season this afternoon at Central Michigan. Even with NIU out of postseason contention, Barker expects her team to play hard against the Broncos (6-7-3, 3-1-1 MAC.)
“We’re playing to win,” Barker said. “It’s not any different from any other game.”
While Barker is considering the matchup just another game, the Huskie seniors are preparing to play the final collegiate game.
“You think this day will never come,” senior defender Micaela Damas said. “This group of girls has gotten close over the last four years, and it’s the last time I’m going to play with them.”
Midfielder Lisa Maier, who has compiled 28 points during four seasons with the Huskies, hasn’t had the realization she is playing her final game hit her yet.
“Talk to me after the game and it will be a different story,” Maier said. “We always say to play every game as if it’s your last and now it really is.”
After a disappointing season it doesn’t matter what senior you ask. They all want to go out on a high note with a win.
To achieve its goal, NIU will have to suppress a balanced Broncos offense that has nine players with goals this season.
Despite the balanced play, Western Michigan has struggled at home, going just 2-4-1 in Kalamazoo. The Broncos haven’t won a home match since Oct. 2.
After a rough season, that is a streak senior goalie Lindsey Curnock would like to help the Broncos extend.
“I can’t really sugarcoat it,” Curnock said. “I want to go out with a win.”
