'Painkiller Hotel's' debut CD a surprise hit

Alternative rock band Painkiller Hotel released its debut CD, “Black Roses,” Tuesday.

Based in Aurora, Painkiller Hotel was signed to Indie label Rock Ridge, and “Black Roses” does not disappoint.

Its 10 tracks are edgy and fresh, and it’s difficult to believe this is their debut CD because it has such a solid sound.

Painkiller Hotel’s sound could be compared to that of Matchbox 20, Pearl Jam and even a little Nine Inch Nails. It’s unique and inviting.

Most of the songs are rock-driven, but “Black Roses” has its slower tracks as well.

They don’t hold up the CD at all, though. The acoustic guitars and soft lyrics break up the steady heaviness of the other tracks and add a melodic twist to the CD.

This is a must-listen for any fan of rock.

Painkiller Hotel will be playing at the House Café, 263 W. Lincoln Highway, in DeKalb Nov. 12.
