Halloween is just around the corner and the hunt for the perfect costume has begun.
There are always the typical costumes that are seen every year, but what does 2009 have to offer toward its Halloween?
There always seems to be a trend of late celebrities making their way into Halloween.
The trick is to find the best costumes of this year: What will stand out and be the most memorable?
Senior psychology major Brendan Bethel thinks he’ll be seeing Kanye West because of what he did to Taylor Swift at this year’s VMAs.
Jamie Tintera, junior art education major, said mainstream media should play into costumes people will be wearing.
“Anything from the media or movies will be seen,” Tintera said. “There will definitely be a lot of stuff from the scary movies like Saw. But then you always have the people that do the typical costumes.”
How soon is too soon to begin planning a costume?
“It’s never too soon to start planning a costume,” Bethel said. “I’m going to be a doctor this year, and I bought my lab coat months in advance because I knew that’s what I wanted to do this year for Halloween.”
Tintera finds planning in advance is not necessary.
“Any time more than a month in advance is too far to plan,” Tintera said. “It’s one holiday; it’s one day. If you’re planning three months in advance, that’s too soon.”
Halloween costumes can be pricey. Is it better to spend money on a costume that has everything all packaged in one, or is it easier to pull something together out of items a person already has?
“Personally, I think it’s better to put together a costume out of things you already have because it’s cheaper and easier to base a costume off something someone already has, but maybe having to buy one or two add-ons if necessary,” Bethel said.
It’s not hard to notice how many women present themselves on Halloween night; some modest and conservative, others-not so much.
It almost seems to be acceptable for women to dress “skanky” on Halloween just because it’s a costume and only for one night.
Bethel thinks he’ll be seeing lots of sexy animals because Halloween is an easy excuse for
women to dress risque.
“They’re just dressing like that because it’s Halloween and it doesn’t mean they’re like that in real life,” he said.
Tintera shares similar sentiment.
“Girls take advantage of Halloween to show more skin,” Tintera said. “They use it as an excuse to dress more promiscuous.”
