Wisconsin Special Teams Breakdown
By BEN GROSS

The University of Wisconsin has found a keeper in freshman David Gilreath, as he has already set records in the Badger’s books.

The wide receiver broke a 60-year school record for kickoff return yardage in a game. Against Michigan State, Gilreath returned seven kickoffs for 189 yards. The old record was a 178 yards.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 160-pounder only needs 87 yards to break the school record for kickoff return yards in a season. The old record of 670 yards was set in 2002 by Brandon Williams.

While the Badgers have youth returning kicks, they have experience kicking. Senior Taylor Mehlhaff has made 38-51 field goals in his career.

The South Dakota native has the third-best field goal percentage in Wisconsin history.

The Badgers have also seen an improvement in their punting. Over the last four games, punter Ken Debauche is averaging 44.1 yards per kick.

The senior has booted five kicks for 50-plus yards, placed seven in the 20, and three within the 10.
