After the season 2 premiere of TLC’s “Cake Boss” last week, the show promises to be even more delicious than last season.
During the first episode of this new season, cake-making expert Buddy Valastro faces the challenge of creating a botanical cake for the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
Somehow he has to create a delicious-looking cake with a variety of unusual plants and flowers.
By utilizing the talents of his team at Carlos Bakery, buddy stuns the BBG with an edible Venus fly trap cake.
What sets Buddy’s cakes apart from other store-decorated cakes is his ability to make a cake into a whole construction piece.
For example, the Venus fly trap could easily have just been drawn on top of the cake, but by using rice crispy treats, a moldable frosting called fondant and tubing, Buddy gave the fly trap dimension. The flowers at the base of the cake resemble freshly cut flowers, but are made completely of edible sugar.
As if creating consumable flowers is not enough, the show hypes up the drama with Buddy’s second highlighted masterpiece.
When a customer enters the store with the idea of hiding an engagement ring in a cake, Buddy takes the idea to a whole new level.
Mirroring the image of the ring box, Buddy designs an elegant cake in the exact shape and color of the ring box. Using melted sugar and a silicon mold to make a giant diamond, the cake comes to life and makes the proposal extra sweet.
Although not everyone can create Buddy’s structural cakes, creativity is always encouraged through brief interview clips inserted during the episode.
With these two pieces starting off the second season, there are high hopes for bigger and better cakes this season.
