Derby Day scheduled to help underprivileged kids
Musicians play to raise money for Feb. 14...

Welcome to “This Week on YouTube,” the extremely low-budget, print version of “Tosh.0.”
Every week, an extraordinarily high amount of people upload videos to YouTube. So, every week, this column will take a select few videos from the week and give out ratings of what’s worth your time between planting crops on Facebook’s “Farmville” and what’s worth skipping because looking up fantasy football stats for the third time in the day is way more entertaining.
A lot of videos on YouTube are reoccurring video bloggers created by people whose only job is to create videos in which they sarcastically rant about news topics, society’s problems or awkward situations, like “The Philip DeFranco Show” or “communitychannel.” These ‘VLogs’ are so frequently uploaded that I am going to ignore them because they’re like daytime talk shows, every week they’re the same thing, and a column about the same thing every week is just dull.
That’s why in this column I am going to focus on YouTube videos like short sketches, pranks or anything else that potentially holds viral status.
This week, we’re going to look at two videos. The first is a video titled “Invisible Rope Prank” from an energetic and enthusiastic channel named thecumputernerd01. The first few introductory seconds of this video are very sophomoric and could come off as immature and annoying, but hold on, it gets better.
The two teens go around town pretending to stretch out a rope across oncoming traffic in the mall and in mall parking lots; the reactions they get are definitely worth it. It’s amazing how confused people get when two adolescent boys pretend to be holding a rope, which usually results in a Mexican standoff, but there are a few times in the video that are very entertaining. Some of the best moments in the video occur at minute 1:06, 1:23, 2:08, 2:37 and 2:49.
The second video comes from the very popular “College Humor Channel” called “Star Fox in Iraq.” Anyone who has spent hours playing “Star Fox 64” as a child will enjoy the humor behind this professionally produced video. “Star Fox in Iraq” is a sketch about an American Air Force pilot that is about to bomb a target in Iraq, but soon encounters most of the characters from the Nintendo 64 game “Star Fox 64.” The characters of “Star Fox 64” soon cause a surprising amount of confusion with the pilot, resulting in some very humorous dialogue.
Well that’s all the space we have, so come back next week to check out what new videos YouTube has in store for the Internet-consuming community.
