DeKalb Liquor Commission discusses the creation of P and PC licenses
By AMANDA PODGORNY

The DeKalb Liquor Commission revised the city’s liquor license plans to consider current liquor license holders exempt from future license classes.

The liquor commission has been discussing the idea of creating new licenses. It was proposed that current Class A license holders running a packaged liquor store would have to convert to a Class P license, which relates to just packaged liquor distributors, or a Class PC license, which relates to packaged liquor distributors on campuses.

However, the commission revised the plan so the current 17 Class A license holders do not have to convert to a P or PC license. Instead, they can continue running their establishments as a bar and sell packaged liquor with their current license.

Deputy Liquor Commissioner Cory Warren said the idea of creating the P and PC licenses has been around for some time.

In past meetings, Class A license holders spoke out against the idea of the P or PC licenses. The P and PC licenses will apply only to new businesses.

“From this point forward, if they wanted to run a packaged liquor store, they would apply for a P or PC license [depending upon location],” said Warren.

This would hold true unless an establishment wanted to run a bar and a packaged liquor store.

“Then they would have to apply for a P or PC license [depending on location] and an A license,” said Warren.
