Track of the Day
By HERMINIA IRIZARRY
I’m going to be the first to admit it. Britney Spears’ latest single “Gimme More” isn’t that bad. Created amidst shaving her head, divorcing K-Fed and exposing herself for all of the paparazzi to see, Spears’ music has been deeply overshadowed.
A lot of people’s criticisms with “Gimme More” and Spears as an artist stem from the first time they may have heard the song – during Spears’ strange performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
When you forget about Britney Spears - the misguided mother who doesn’t wear panties - and listen to the song, you can hear that it’s really good club/dance music. With its techno/electronica influences, “Gimme More” is a successful dance song.
While it may not be on Grammy caliber, “Gimme More” is a catchy tune and has an upbeat tempo. The song makes you want to move – whether it’s upper-torso-head-dancing in the car or full-out gyrating on the dance floor.
Since her “In the Zone” album, Spears’ music has gone in a different direction, away from her days as a pop princess. With a more mature and a clubbier tone, “Gimme More” is in line with Spears’ new direction of music.
