Huskie Bus Line dissapointing for Northern View residents

As a first year graduate student, and first time being out of the house, I was ecstatic to come across on-campus apartments, Northern View Community. But living at the complex has been nothing but a nightmare.

Thursday the school is hosting an event at the Convocation Center, and for the second time this semester, I have been denied access to the Huskie Bus system because of the event. Is it too much to ask for the school to make other arrangements so the community will still get service? Apparently. Or short of that, why can’t the school notify Northern View residents ahead of time, that there will be no service for the day and to have us look for alternative arrangements.

Don’t misunderstand me. I am not complaining that I had to walk 15 minutes back to my apartment, nor am I complaining that I had to walk that in the cold, because I know dorm residents go through similar situations. My complaint lies in the fact that I had to walk those 15 minutes in the dark, in poorly lit areas, where my safety was my number one concern. And great for NIU because they offer the late night ride service and the walking escort service. A lot of good they did me, however, when the late night ride service doesn’t start until 10 p.m. and the walking escort would not assist me.

Thanks NIU for the education and endangering my safety in the process.
