High-speed chase leaves one injured

A Sycamore Police Detective observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on June 11 at approximately 10:30 a.m. The car was heading westbound on State Street. The detective attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car turned south onto Peace Road, police said.

After the car turned, the detective noticed a woman hanging out of the rear window, who then fell from the window onto the side of the road. The car continued to drive away, and accelerated after the woman fell out of the window, police said.

The detective stopped his pursuit to protect the women. Several motorists stopped to assist the detective, The detective called for an ambulance, and after making sure the woman was secure, he attempted to catch the fleeing motorist, police said.

Due to the motorist’s high rate of speed, the detective was unable to catch the vehicle.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and was able to provide other responding officers with information about the incident. The owner of the vehicle was also located and able to provide information, police said.

The investigation found that Jena Adachi, 28, of Rochelle, had just bonded out of the DeKalb County Jail.

Adachi was traveling in the car with a female relative and male friend. The friend was the owner of the car, police said.

When the owner stopped at 7-11, Adachi got into the driver’s seat and drove away at a high rate of speed, the police report said.

Adachi said something while she was driving that caused her relative to fear for her life, and the relative proceeded to jump from the car, the police report said.

The victim is in stable condition at St. Anthony’s Hospital, police said.

Adachi and the stolen car were located in Chicago in the early morning hours of June 12, police said.

In DeKalb County, Adachi is being charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 Felony.

Other charges are under consideration as the investigation is ongoing.
