Waterways still above flood stage
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Several waterways in northern Illinois remain above flood stage but water levels are falling or expected to fall in coming weeks.
The National Weather Service says Chain O' Lakes and the Fox, Rock and Pecatonica rivers continue to be more than a foot above flood stage at points. They all have crested.
Dennis Lolli is head of the Rock River Emergency Services and Disaster Agency in Winnebago County, near Rockford.
He says about 500 homes near the Rock River are affected. He says it's too early to estimate damages.
Weather service meteorologist Nathan Marsili says more rain could fall in the next week, with a thunderstorm likely Wednesday.
Flood warnings will stay in effect until this weekend and into next week for the Rock and Pecatonica rivers.
