approved.
Lois Self's report (in absentia) from the department was that the contest
went well. DeKalb News Service is back in service. Alumni newsletter will
be distributed Friday. One of the speakers for the day will cost $775 and
be divided three ways. Liberty's dues were discussed.
President's report from Lonny was that the mentor award is pretty much turned
over to IPA to run since they have more manpower, etc.
Correspondence included letters of thanks from scholarship winners. Best
clip contest report was that marketing it still is a problem. There were
26 writing and 75 photo entries. It did not pay for itself. It was agreed
upon that this is one of NINA's better ideas, it just needs to be marketed
better.
Dec. 7 will be the next meeting. Officers should come with new ideas.
1st VP and marking committee report. Jan said it was not a good year for
membership, due to buyouts. We need three more board members. The current
members who were up for seats were re-elected. Two more (Gale Baldwin and
Don Lyons) still need to be nominated or replaced. We hope to keep a Kane
County Chronicle person -- either Lyons or Greg Rivara -- and someone from
the Rockford Register Star.
Meeting was reconvened at dinner.
Pam Lannom discussed the fall conference program and who will introduce
whom.
Lonny Cain will open meeting of general membership meeting to vote on bylaw
changes then adjourn.

Kubiak, 1st VP; Pam Lannom, 2nd VP; Jim Slonoff, treasurer; Colin O'Donnell,
at large; Jim Killam, communications director and Lois Self, executive secretary.
The Rhino Award was presented to Lonny Cain for doing the most for the board
once again this year.
