Metro Editor. Posted 5-9-08. Rockford Register Star. In some ways, the metro editor's job hasn't changed: get a strong, comprehensive local news report quickly, efficiently and smartly; lead and direct a staff of reporters; answer the phone; get performance appraisals done on time; and make the readers -- and the boss -- happy. Metro editor has always been the best and worst job in the room, but it's the one in which you can make the biggest difference. The metro editor ensures we protect and drive our local news franchise across multiple platforms. Print is only one, so if it's all about the "newspaper" for you, you're not going to be happy with us. But, if you want to be where the new models are more than just talk, join us in Rockford.

Requirements: Solid print reporting and editing background with a strong grasp of First Amendment, news, context and enterprise.
Demonstrated ability to lead and direct multiple staffers in a fast-paced environment. Mastery of time management, decision making, project building and changing priorities. Demonstrated interest in and understanding of the possibilities of delivering local news across multiple platforms. A sense of humor.
